CROSS COUNTRY SUITE, CHICAGO - OCTOBER, 2007
|
Cross Country Suite, composed by Nelson Riddle, was performed by the Chicago Jazz Orchestra on October 7, 2007 at Northwestern University in Chicago. The guest soloist was Buddy DeFranco, who was the original solist on the album that won a Grammy in 1958. It was a privilege to be present at this momentous occasion. The following article from the Chicago Tribune describes this wonderful event.

REPORT ON AUGUST, 10, 2007 DUBLIN CONCERT
|
This summers Riddle Tribute concert, Solving the Riddle played to another sold out audience at the National Concert Hall. David ORourke co-directed with Christopher. As you can read in the copy of the program that follows this note, the combination of works chosen by David and Christopher comprised a most interesting variety of Dads work including some of his compositions as well as his arrangements.
Butchart Gardens from the British Columbia Suite along with Down East and Smokey Mountain Country (an encore) from Cross Country Suite (both Nelson Riddle compositions) were well received. A most unique addition chosen by David was Dads arrangement of some Delius Preludes, a series of piano pieces orchestrally interpreted by Nelson Riddle.
The RTE is again very interested in having us back this next year. The Irish people were again so warm and welcoming.

KEELY SMITH AND NELSON RIDDLE
The selection you hear when you enter the website is a favorite of mine. When Day is Done is a wonderfully energetic and inventive arrangement. It is taken from a currently available Keely Smith album arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle, I Wish You Love.
As I just saw Keely at the Carlyle in New York and was still blown away by her voice, her energy and her rapport with the audience, I want to share with visitors to our website how wonderful it is to still be able to hear this wonderful artist still passionate about her music. She spoke of her work with Dad at Capitol and commented on his ability to work with her so capably.
I recommend this album to all fans.
